A friend asked that question after reading a tweet that I recently posted in reference to a recent blog post by Matthew Paul Turner.
It’s an interesting question that I hadn’t considered. Possibly because although I’m somewhat on the fringes of Christian sub-culture, I’m still conversant enough with popular American Christian belief and thought that some of this stuff doesn’t seem all that strange any more.
In thinking about Ed Young’s bed-in promotion for his book Sexperiment and Mark and Grace Driscoll’s Real Marriage, I can see how one might look at the American church and wonder whether (Evangelical) Christians are experiencing boredom in the bedroom.
I’d like to hear your thoughts. What do you think? Are these books representative of a hunger and thirst to know what the biblical text says about marriage and human sexuality? Are they representative of a model of church that has given birth to rock star pastors who believe that they are authorities (and thus speak authoritatively on any and all subjects)? Or are books (and publicity stunts such as the bed-in) indicative of an increasing boredom in the bedroom among American Christians?
